Companies and homeowners are being asked to evacuate Boulder, Colo. The small fire in Boulder is the reason for this evacuation. There are about 20 acres being burned by the Dome fire. Health risks and power outages are both a major risk.
Evacuation as a result of wildland fire
Outside CO city, there are two Boulder fires. These fires are causing some severe problems. About 1,700 residents have been informed that they have to evacuate. The Boulder fire evacuees are being asked to go to the Coors Event Center or Boulder Judicial Complex. The Boulder Humane Society and Boulder County Fairgrounds are where animals of those being evacuated could be taken. They have also asked patients to stay out of Mapleton and Maxwell. This is where the Boulder Community hospital is at.
Boulder fire has 100 firefighters trying to keep it tamed
100 firefighters from seven different agencies were brought together to fight the two Boulder fires. There is one thing the firefighters are working on right now. They want to remove fuel for the wildland fires, which is called a “back burn”. Boulder is going to lose power for four or more hours because of the power getting shut off with the back burn. Air tankers are also being called in to drop fire retardant across numerous residences. Both fires were reported at about 8:45 a.m. on Friday.
Boulder fire ends up being a huge challenge
The two Boulder fires likely will not be put out quickly. This caused the National Weather Service to put out a warning. A red flag warning is in effect. This means that there can be “gusty and erratic winds” that will cause critical fire weather conditions. There is also some concern coming from the Boulder County Health department. They’re worried the Boulder fires could cause negative health effects because of the smoke and debris. The weather cooperating would be a really great thing. That would mean the Boulder fire might be stopped within the next couple days. The Boulder fire could end up lasting over a week if the strong winds continue.
