The government revised the crash screening rating system before this year’s round of crash tests. The results have just been published. The new ratings put the total number of stars up to 5. However, the brand new scoring system is a little more stringent. Only two vehicles received a full five stars. The Hyundai Motors Sonata and Bavarian Motor Works 5 series were the two at the best, with five star collision ratings. This is the first round of testing, and the 34 cars all went via the brand new sliding side impact, which simulates an impact during a skid. New standards made for crash assessments
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration changed the crash test rating system. Now the scale goes to five instead of from 1 to 4 as it used to. The first round of testing, based on USA Today, has just concluded. The first round of testing had numerous automobiles. About 34 autos were part of it. The second round will test 22 more. There is going to be much more criteria with the brand new rating system. A new assessment is being added also. There will be assessments over side collision. This is because skidding happens with side collision occasionally. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration decided collision avoidance systems needed to be tested too. One of these tested was the electronic stability control. Earlier standards should be compared to brand new standards. This is suggested by the NHTSA.
BMW and Hyundai get ratings at the top
Five stars were only awarded to two of the autos. This was part of the crash testing. The Hyundai Motors Sonata got a perfect five-star crash assessment. The only other automobile to get that was the Bavarian Motor Works 5 series. Also, only three cars did really badly. They got less than a four. The Camry Hybrid and the Toyota Camry both got a three star rating with the crash test. Last year the Camry did the best. It got the highest scores available. The Nissan Versa received the lowest score of two. Every other car tested got four out of five stars.
More cars to assessment
