Gruden Replaces Kornheiser as Monday Night Football Analyst
"PTI, Mr. Kornheiser, but we want someone else..."
John Madden has been away from the Monday Night Football broadcast booth for some time now. They’ve been looking to fill his shoes ever since, a pursuit that will never end, as the man was irreplaceable to football fans. Nevertheless, another move in the booth has been made: Tony Kornheiser, co-host of ESPN’s “Pardon The Interruption” (PTI for short), has been replaced by former NFL coach Jon Gruden.
Mason Levinson reports for Bloomberg that former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Gruden has been tabbed as the next fortunate soul/victim to fill the broadcasting booth for Monday Night Football. In was rough for Dennis Miller, Rush Limbaugh and Tony Kornheiser, but ESPN apparently believes that the coach brings the right mix of football knowledge and good looks to the role (see the image below!) Tony Kornheiser reportedly has resigned after three seasons due to his fear of flying. Whether he’ll need cash advances or an online loan to fill the gap between paychecks remains to be seen.
He’ll still spar with Michael Wilbon on PTI
For the 2009-2010 season, Monday Night Football will return former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski and ubiquitous ESPN stalwart Mike Tirico.
