ABC Fall Lineup 2009 features recession
ABC has announced a host of 11 new shows that it will introduce in ABC’s fall lineup 2009. Wednesday night will feature four new half-hour sitcoms.
Some of the subject matter the shows will highlight clearly displays the country’s current preoccupation with the recession. What will be interesting is to see how much money ABC makes on shows that focus on families who don’t have enough money.
Focus on frugality
Several of ABC’s new shows feature the types of families that have to take out installment loans when a big expense comes up. Television used to be filled with scenes of people buying plane tickets at the airport at the last minute (”Friends”), affluent families in mansions with butlers (”Fresh Prince”) and countless dramas about people with high-paying jobs such as lawyers and surgeons.
That won’t be the case on the ABC fall lineup 2009.
Languishing in layoffs
A major, pervading factor that has plagued Americans throughout the recession is layoffs. Everyone who hasn’t been laid off knows someone who has been laid off.
One show in the ABC fall lineup 2009, “Hank,” features a CEO who “finds himself out of work,” according to Buddy TV.
