Santonio Holmes of Pittsburgh Steelers, sued over alleged assault

As if the Pittsburgh Steelers needed additional problems right now, USA Today reports: <a title=”Pittsburgh Steelers Santonio Holmes sued for alleged assault” href=”http://personalmoneystore.com/moneyblog/2010/03/29/santonio-holmes-assault-suit/”> Santonio Holmes gets slapped with a civil suit for assault. Of course, it is not a criminal case, which could possibly mean there was not enough evidence to proceed there, but it is certainly enough to get the Steel City blue collar fans upset. Word on the street is that star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will not be found at the team's off-season workout program due to a pending case against him for alleged criminal sexual assault. Of course, star wide receiver Santonio Holmes' drink-throwing action on Anshonoe Mills might appear small in comparison, but the Pittsburgh Steelers could certain fair better without these types of distractions.

Santonio Holmes passes catcher, becomes a drink thrower

Anshonoe Mills is alleging that on March 7, Santonio Holmes “ordered her to get up” off a couch in the Rain Night Club in Orlando, Florida in the VIP area. After what appeared to be a musical chairs-style scuffle, Santonio Holmes, according to Mills, then threw his drink right in her face and she received a cut from the broken glass. Whether she needed <a title=”Instant Cash Loans” href=”http://personalmoneystore.com/payday-loans/instant-payday-loans/instant-cash-loans/”>instant cash loans to pay an ER bill is unclear, but Mills does claim that Holmes and the Orlando PD tried to get her not to press charges. Santonio Holmes allegedly even offered her an undisclosed sum of cash for her silence, which could have relieved the potential need to seek out the <a title=”Payday Lenders” href=”http://personalmoneystore.com/payday-lenders/loan-lenders/payday-lender/”>services of payday lenders&l! t;/a>.

A Super Bowl XLIII MVP to a man of trouble

This is not the first Pittsburgh Steelers embarrassment Santonio Holmes has caused, neither is this the first time he's gotten in trouble with the law. Holmes was charged in the past for marijuana possession; not to mention there were also the Santonio Holmes naked photos that somehow made its way to the cyber world in 2008. According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, of the latest alleged scuffle between Holmes and Anshonoe Mills, no discussion has been released from the Holmes camp.

Steelers history – how will these men be viewed?

We all know that the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Rooney family have a long, distinguished history of success. The Rooney family is one of character, and when the on-the-field, take-no-prisoners war conducted by players like Jack Lambert was tolerated, it's the kind of embarrassment that players like Ben Roethlisberger and Santonio Holmes have brought upon the team that's particularly exasperating.

It's clear the media spotlight today is much brighter than it was during the Pittsburgh Steelers’ heyday of the 1970s. Pittsburgh fans would likely have a very different view of their sports heroes today if sources like TMZ and Bleachers Report had existed then. Ben Roethlisberger and Santonio Holmes have not yet been convicted for anything, but that doesn’t alter the fact that they are drowning in deep waters of bad decisions.
