When I was young, my next door neighbor's husband wore white shirts to work every day so she paid me to iron shirts for her. In order to do that, she had to teach me the proper way to iron a white shirt.
There is a way, which surprised me, to do it right. My dad wore a white shirt to work every day but he was one of those funny computer geeks who didn't even know you were supposed to iron a shirt.
He worked for the same big electronics company for 35 years. He was loved and respected by his peers. I know this because over the years we met lots of them at the big company's functions, yearly Christmas parties, yearly summer picnics, things like that. And they would go on and on about how great my dad was and some big programming thing he had accomplished and how he was the only one who could do this, blah blah blah.
But, every day, as he left the house in his wrinkled shirt and tie, I would think, well, I guess that's how computer geeks dress. Anyway, my next door neighbor's husband was a school teacher, so his shirts had to be ironed. At least that's the way I looked at it.
Anyway, to iron a perfect white shirt 1) first iron the collar, 2) iron the back yoke 3) iron the sleeves then 4) iron the body all around, front and back and voila, a perfect ironed white shirt.
